Transmission fluid
Towing heats up transmission fluid, and heat is what wears it out. Check your manual’s severe-service interval for fluid changes, and if shifts start to feel harsh or slow, get it looked at.

Straight down FM 149 and TX-249 from Montgomery: 23 miles, usually 28 to 40 minutes. Oil changes, brake repair and transmission work for trucks that tow to Lake Conroe, and everyday service for the car in the driveway.
Montgomery calls itself the birthplace of the Lone Star Flag, and it sits next to Lake Conroe on SH 105. FM 149 runs south from town straight to Pinehurst, where you pick up TX-249 south into Tomball, then Medical Complex Dr and Calvert Rd. It’s 23.3 miles, usually 28 to 40 minutes outside rush hour.
If your truck pulls a boat to the lake, it works harder than the normal service schedule assumes, especially the transmission, the brakes and the oil. We do all three, plus car AC, check engine lights and engine repair.
Collision repair, rust repair and paint are done in the same shop, and we take on classic restorations and LS swaps too. Call 936-661-2675 or text photos before you make the trip.
Most owner’s manuals count towing as severe service. Here’s what that changes.

A boat adds a lot of weight to stop. If the truck takes longer to stop with the trailer on, get the brakes checked before the next trip. A soft pedal is different: don’t keep driving on it.
Most manuals shorten the oil change interval for towing. Go by the severe schedule, not the normal one.
