Lifter tick on the 5.3L and 6.2L
A 2021 class action says cylinder deactivation causes early lifter failure on 2014-and-later Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL V8s. The usual sign is a ticking engine.
Engine repair ↗Sierra, Yukon, Canyon and Terrain service and repair: oil changes, brakes, transmission work, car AC and check engine lights. Same engines as the Silverado, so we know the lifter tick and the 8-speed shudder, and we restore the classic GMC pickups too.
GMC trucks share a lot with their Chevy cousins: the Sierra shares its platform and engines with the Silverado, and the Yukon is built in Arlington, Texas, alongside the Tahoe and Suburban. That means the same known problems, and the same fixes.
We repair GMC Sierras, Yukons, Canyons and Terrains at our shop in Tomball: transmission repair, brake repair, car AC repair, check engine lights, suspension, oil changes and tune-ups.
Got a classic GMC pickup or Jimmy? We do rust repair, restorations and LS swaps on those too. Text photos of the project to 936-661-2675.
GMC trucks share their V8s and 8-speed with Chevy, so they share the same known problems. A recall or warranty extension may still cover yours.

Transmission repair ↗On 2014–2018 Sierra and 2015–2018 Yukon, the brake assist vacuum pump can lose output, giving a hard pedal and a “service brake assist” message.
Brake repair ↗A class action alleges AC leaks on 2014–2016 Sierra 1500 and 2015–2017 Yukon. If the AC keeps going warm after a recharge, there’s a leak to find.
